High School Newspaper: Fresh(er) Ideas


Today’s topic is very journalistic and based on the journalism class that I am currently in.  Here are some ideas for school newspapers that our Cocalico Chronicle has included so far this semester.

1) The high school play/musical
2) Any part of the high school music department (ex: band, jazz band, color guard, marching band, choir, etc)
3) A seasonal activity/happening at a local state park/state forest/wildlife management area
4) SATs vs. ACTs
5) Tradition of March Madness
7) Students’ opinions on part-time jobs
8) School competitions (ex: FBLA did a “Mustache March” competition to see who could grow the best mustache in a month)
9) School Bible study group’s activities (ex: 30 Hour Famine)
10) Monthly student spotlight
11) Interview teachers on their former jobs and experiences
12) Interview married teachers on how they proposed or were proposed to
13) Local café ties to school (ex: Students welcome to entertain café guests by music or poetry reading)
14) Opinion/review on up and coming bands
15) The school talent show
16) The new Keystone testing (for Pennsylvanians)
17) Prom committee
18) Compare your high school prom to others in the area
19) Cute ways to ask girls to prom
20) Music that pumps up sports players
21) Unusual hobbies (ex: yo-yoing)
22) Retiring staff/faculty
23) Love relationships in high school affecting choices
